Marine Lance Cpl. John R. Cartrell and Pre Ronald E. Jordan are seen digging out an enemy bunker during Operation Head River, southwest of Da Nang in Vietnam on December 6, 1968. This operation involved Army of the Republic of Vietnam soldiers, Republic of Korea Marines, and 5,000 American Marines. It is noted as the largest heli-assault in Marine Corps history.
