Skerryvore Lighthouse. Historical illustration of the internal structure of a lighthouse. Lighthouses are designed to warn sailors of nearby rocks, and to inform them of their position. The image shows the many levels of the lighthouse. A man has been drawn against the lighthouse (bottom right) to give the viewer an idea of scale. This particular lighthouse was constructed at Skerryvore, Scotland, in 1872.
