(May 19, 2003) - A United States Naval Academy freshman (Plebe) climbs "Herndon", a 21-foot gray monument covered in more than 200 pounds of lard, to mark the end of plebe year. At the firing of cannons, the plebe class works together to attempt the climb up the lard-covered obelisk to retrieve a white plebe "dixie-cupÓ hat from the top of the monument as thousands of spectators watch.
