In 1826Lawrence Doyle was president of the Charitable Irish Society,having followed in that office the Hon. Joseph AUison, a mem-ber of the old Council of Twelve, and a partner in busi-ness of Hon. Enos Collins. An elder brother of Lawrence OConnor Doyle namedMorgan, died on the 20th of July, 1845. A table head-stonemarks his last resting place in Holy Cross Cemetery. Lawrence. A SKETCH OF LAWRENCE OCONNOR DOYLE. 153 Doyle and his wife Bridget OConnor Doyle are buried in oldSt. Peters burying ground. Lawrence OConnor Doyle was born in the same year asthe Hon. Joseph Howe. His birth took place on the 27thof February 1804, while that of Howe was on the 13th of Dec-ember, 1804, thereby making Doyle the elder by about ninemonths and a half. The birth register of old St. PetersChapel, Halifax, records that Lawrence OConnor Doyle, sonof Lawrence Doyle and Bridget OConnor, was baptized onthe 9th of March, 1804, aged twelve days. The ceremonyof baptism was performed by the Rev. E. Burke, Vicar-General to the Bishop of Quebec. Of Howes lieutenants in the great fight for responsiblegovernment in Nova Scotia, none is so little known to-day asLawrence OConnor Doyle. And yet, no one in the earlystages of
