The First Chechen War, Chechen fighter guarding a captured Russian Solider in the basement of the Presidential Palace in Grozny, the capital of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. According to the Russian Military more than 5,000 Russian soldiers died and it is estimated that more than 3,000 Chechen militant fighters died during the First War from 1994 to 1996.
