Pheasant's-Eye Narcissus also known as Poet's Narcissus Latin name: Narcissus poeticus (L.) Family: Amaryllidaceae

Pheasant's-eye Narcissus is a common wild flower of high mountain meadows in Central and Eastern France and it has become naturalised in the UK, Belgium and Germany. Each bulb produces a single stem with a single flower April to June which has 6 tepals and a yellow central corona with an orange rim. The flowers are often highly fragant and are cultivated to produce an essentail oil which is a common constituent of perfumes. This species has a number of subspecies and readily hybridises and therefore a variety of tepal shapes and yellow varients can be seen in a small area.
