In the morning Webster S. Krout, plant disease specialist for the agricul- tural experiment station, Amherst, dem- onstrated methods of seed treatment for disease control. Additional demon- strations Avere given during the after- noon before large and interested au- diences. There were demonstrations by a number of motor cultivators, one from the middle west, not previously seen here, doing satisfactory work. Dr. J. K. Shaw, of the Massachusetts Agricultural College, spoke on "Funda- mental Principles Wliich Must Tnderlie Wise Seed Selection" and was asked numerous questions. Other tojjics dis- cussed in the morning were "Need for \'egetablc Seed Improvement" and "Is It Tracticable to Grow Vegetable Seeds at Home?" followed by an inspection and discussion of tomato varieties, as seen in the large test plots. Demonstrations of plant setting at the rate of 1,000 plants jicr man per lionr proved interesting, while I'rof. H. F. Thompson, professor of market gar- dening at Amherst, handled the subject, "A Look Into the Future and How to Make the Best Progress," admirably, giving many valuable and helpful sug- gestions. E. H.
