In 1780, on the resignation of his uncle, DrWilliam Pitcairn, he was elected physician to St Bartholo-mews Hospital, London, and in 1792 to Christs former office, on account of the great increase of hisprivate practice, he resigned in 1793. In 1791 his uncle, William Pitcairn, President of theRoyal College of Physicians, died, and bequeathed to DrDavid Pitcairn his Gold-Headed Cane, his picture of him-self by Sir Joshua Reynolds, and one of Dr Archibald. The following is an extract from the Retours and Pro-gress of Writs for the County of Fife, when Dr DavidPitcairn succeeded to the Pitcairn estates:1 David Pit-cairn of Forthar, Physician in London, son of the lateMajor John Pitcairn of the Marines, to his uncle, WilliamPitcairn of Forthar, Physician in London, who died Nov-ember 1791, Heir Special in the Barony of Forthar, andlands of Dovan, in the Parish of Kettle, Fifeshire. Dated26th November 1795, and recorded 14th Dec. 1795. Dr David Pitcairn was Censor in 1785, 1786, 1791, 1806,Gulstonian Lecturer, and Harveian Orator in 1786. He was elected Fellow of the College of Physicians onthe 15th August 1784. In St Bartholomews Book the following notice occurs:— Dr Wm. Pitcairn
