He studied law in the Albany LawSchool, was admitted to the New York bar in 1866 and topractice in the United States Courts in 1868. He came toNew York in 1867, and became managing clerk in the officeof John E. Devlin, who was then corporation this he went to Plattsburg and entered into jjartner-ship with Palmer & Weed, the new firm assuming the titleof Palmer, Weed iK: Holcomb. Ilic firm having beendissolved in 1878, Mr. Holcomb practised alone until heorganized the firm of Holcomb, Fitzgerald & Condon,which was dissolved in 1801, when Mr. Holcomb formedhis present co-partnership with Hon. D. J. Martin. Hehas always devoted himself exclusively to civil businessand United States cases, and has reached a high standingamong the legal lights of New York. In 1890 he waselectetl member of the State Legislature for the NinthAssembly District on the United hemocratic ticket, servedone term with much distinction, and declined anothernomination. He said that one term was enough forhim. He is member of the New York DemocraticClub and also of the Tammany Society. Mr. Holcomb isa man of undoubted capacity with an unimpeachable publicand private record. As a lawyer he is studious andthorough in the interests of his clients, as a referee he ispartial and just, and
