WASHINGTON (March 10, 2020) — This chart depicts the trends for the prevalence of prescription, over-the-counter and illicit drugs found in the bodies of fatally injured pilots between 2013 and 2017. The NTSB published Safety Research Report 20-01 '2013 - 2017 Update to Drug Use Trends in Aviation' Tuesday. The study shows 28 percent of pilots fatally injured between 2013 and 2017, with available toxicology test results, tested positive for at least one potentially impairing drug, which is up from 23 percent in a 2014 study.
