Perhaps no class of plants has more common or popular names than thevarious va- rieties of Lychnis, of which the following is but a partial list: Campion, Devil's Flower, Gardener's Delight, Gardener's Eye, Jerusalem Cross, Lamp Flower, Mal- tese Cross, None Such, Ragged Robin, etc. L. Chalcedonica is also called London Pride in some of the Eastern States; this name, however, belongs to Saxifraga Dm- brosa. Chalcedonica. A most desirable plant, heads of brilliant orange-scarlet, grows 2 to 3 feet high and blooms all summer. (See cut.) Chalcedonica Fl. PI. A double-flowering form, producing immense heads of ver- milion-scarlet flowers, far exceeding in brilliancy the brightest Geraniums; 2 to 3 feet high, flowering from July to September. A gem for cutting, and one of the showiest border plants. 25 cts. each; $ per doz. — Alba. White-flowered. — Carnea. A pale pink variety. Haageana. Brilliant orange-scarlet flowers in May and June; 12 inches. Semperflorens Pienissima. A pretty variety, bearing on spikes a foot long ten- der rose-colored flowers; blooms all summer, Vespertina, Double White. Large, double white flowers, produced in the greatest profusion the entire summer; 18 inches high. 25 cts. each; $ per doz. Viscaria, Double Red. Forms a dense tuft of evergreen foliage, and in June sends up spikes of handsome, double, deep red, fragrant flowers, remaining in per- fection for six weeks.
