This 1899 illustration shows: “ Baruch Spinoza, attributed to Franz Hals. In the Ducal Library of Wolfenbuttel in Germany.” Baruch Spinoza (1632–1677) was a Dutch philosopher. He insisted that all existence is embraced in one substance—God, or Nature. Mind and matter, time, everything that appears is only a manisfestation of the One. Frans Hals (c. 1580 - August 26, 1666) was a Dutch Golden Age painter especially famous for portraiture.
