JAMES ODONNELL. James ODonnell was born in Irelandin the year 1831. He came to Americain his young manhood and settled in NewYork at the age of fifteen years. In 1858he decided to risk his fortunes in the newcountry, and came to California, wherehe has held many reponsible positionsboth on the Police Force and in publiclife, and is still hale and hearty at theage of sixty-nine years, in i860 he ^1^.. JAMES O DOSNELL joined the Volunteer Fire Department,becoming a member of Pacific No. 8,commonly called Sailor No. 8. He had previously run with this stayed with them until the paid De-partment went into service, at whichtime he became exempt, and to-day isone of the prominent members of thisassociation. Mayor Sutro appointed himone of the committee to handle the relieffund allowed by the Legislature for theOld Vamps that needed board elected him secretary, a posi-tion he filled with honor. While Mr. ODonnell has not amasseda fortune, at his advanced age he can lookback with pride upon alife well and honor-ably spent, the press having given himdeserving praise on one occasion in par-ticular for hissteadfastnessto atrust.
