F16 Fighting Falcon landing at Farnborough


Falcon F16 single seater version landing at the Farnborough Airshow 2006 . Flying right to left landing under a grey sky . Pilot visible wearing oxygen mask . Manufactured by Lockheed Martin it is a smaller and more manoeuvrable version with more emphasis on dog fighting within a few miles range . It was one of the first if not the first military aircraft with fly by wire design and incorporating an unstable aerodynamic balance . This means the aircraft is not conventional in balance where the plane is nose heavy but more tail heavy allowing smaller wings and therefore more efficient being lighter and giving a fast turn capability . It has been developed to carry AMRAAM radar guided missile with chaff and flare dispensers for its defence .
