Editorial use only. This image may not be used to state or imply endorsement by CERN of any product, activity or service Tsung-Dao Lee (born 1926), Chinese-American physicist. Lee moved to America in 1946. In 1956, Lee and Chen-Ning Yang showed that parity conservation (mirror-image symmetry) is violated in interactions via the weak nuclear force. For this work, they were awarded the 1957 Nobel Prize in Physics. Lee and Yang also proposed that electron- and muon-type neutrinos are different, predicted the existence of the weak force carrier, the W boson, and indicated the existence of neutral weak currents. Lee is here giving a lecture at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory, to mark the 50th anniversary of his Nobel Prize. Photographed on 30 August 2007.
