Alphonse Legros - The Angelus [1859] The Angelus is an important rediscovery in the history of realism in French painting. Considered lost for several decades, known only from old photographs, the work had belonged to Francis Seymour Haden, Whistler's brother-in-law and himself a noted engraver.
