DNA electrophoresis. Gloved hands with an agarose gel containing fragments of DNA (DeoxyriboNucleic Acid, purple) after separation by electrophoresis. During electrophoresis, samples of DNA, each consisting of many fragments, are placed in an agarose gel. The fragments are separated by applying an electric current across the gel. Some fragments will move faster through the gel and become separated from others over time. This allows the composition of the DNA to be observed.
