This map shows an area of suburban agricultural land within a radius of 2| miles of the centreof the city of Edinburgh. There are no building sub-divisions, as the land is not allotted forbuilding until it is ripe for the purpose. All the land is intensively cultivated and is rented tofarmers and nurserymen at from $15 to $25 per acre. It is taxed at half its agricultural valueso long as it is used for agriculture. In a large Canadian city this land and thousands of acresfurther out would be lying practically idle because of speculation in building lots.
