Three year old Isabelle Munton picking daffodils in a field in Spalding,Lincs,on Tuesday March 10th flowers are coming into bloom just in time for Mothers Day this weekend after the cold winter. Daffodils are blooming in Britain just in time for Mother's Day after the cold winter weather caused them to flower TWO WEEKS late. Little three-year-old Isabelle Munton skipped through rows of golden daffodils at Taylor's Bulbs in Spalding, Lincs, today (Tues) as the flowers finally opened after weeks of frosty nights. The warm weekend weather, which saw the hottest day of the year with a temperature of 17C in Suffolk, has helped the yellow plants to open. It is welcome news for farmer Sam Taylor, who said that until the weekend there was a shortage of daffodils in the country. "We are running about two weeks behind last year. We haven't had a particularly cold winter, but there have been a lot of later frosts at night which slows up growth," he said. "Daffodils grow from 4C onwards so if you have a frosty night it really hold the flowers back. "Last week there was a shortage of daffodils but we had a warm weekend which helped dramatically and the flowers have come out just in time. We are selling everything which we have picked."
