He studied law with William Blairof Westfield, and was admitted to the bar in 1817, and aftera short practice there, removed to West Springfield. Hesoon became prominent in town affairs, serving as townclerk, and clerk of the first parish. He was a representativeof the town to the Legislature from 1821 to 1830. In 1828he was a member of the first county board of highwaycommissioners, and in 1829 was chairman of the 1826 he was appointed by Gov. Levi Lincoln, division 3IO SKETCHES OF THE OLD INHABITANTS.
