Jerdair, a hill village, Gurwall


A small and isolated village in the foothills of the Himalayas in the former province of Ghurwal or Gurwall. There is evidence of hill terracing in this region for the planting of rice and the unusual breed of stunted , shaggy ponies known as ghoouts are found in the region. The picture was drawn by D Cox and engraved by T Higham
