Little can be said as to the materials used in the Derby worksprevious to the year 1769: probably the early body was a fritporcelain containing Dorset clay : bones were afterwards used;and lastly, china clay and china stone. There is an earthinessor opacity about the paste of the later ware, especially duringthe Bloor period, which detracts from the quality of the enamel-colours used. The three vases or bottles, J 14, 15, 16, in JermynStreet collection are, however, good examples of this late gros-bleu and deep pink ground-colours are of peculiarlyrich quality.
