Medical communications of the Massachusetts Medical Society. e reaction is distinctly intracapillary in character, and the lesion is in its early stages, the normal lobulation ofthe tuft is usually more or less completely obscured becausethe dilatation of the capillaries forces the lobules close to-gether. Repair. When the toxins are strong and the reaction isintense so that fibrin and leucocytes occlude the capillariesmore or less completely, death may occur from uremia in afew days or weeks. When, however, the toxins are mildand their action is prolonged, certain changes of a repara-tive nature gradually take place in the tuft. The fibro-blasts forming the supporting walls of the capillaries, owingprobably to some effect of the toxins, are stimulated to in-creased activity, possibly to proliferation; or it may beonly a process of regeneration. At any rate the effect isthat the collagen fibrils are increased in amount at the baseof the tuft and running through the center of each the connective tissue thickens and contracts the lobules. * *w» (* - , »v. - «j „^ Kidney.
