At the Vermont quarries much ofthe marble is fashioned into tomb-stones, statuary, and other forms inthe mills, which have been erected insome instances immediately over thebeds. For cutting the slabs into suit-able sizes sand-saws are used almostentirely. The saws are made ofsoft iron, but without teeth, sandbeing substituted for the latter.
