The Representation of the People Act, 1918 On 6 February 1918, the Government passed the Representation of the People Act allowing million women the right to vote for the first time. Though this was a major step forward for the representation of women in politics, it would be another ten years before women were given the vote on equal terms as men with the ‘Equal Franchise Act’ of 1928.
