Leach & Son, of North Easton, in addition to carnations are now sending in some fine lily of the valley and Purity freesias. Southworth & Greene, of West Stoughton, are sending in good single violets and a nice assortment of well grown carnations. The • West Street Greenhouses, of Reading, are having an extra fine cut of the newest Spencer sweet peas, which realize high prices. They also are large growers of calendulas and daffodils. Their carnations are now in heavy crop. Their best varieties are Pink Delight, Benora, Mrs. Ward, Beacon and White Wonder. The two last named outbloom all others. J. Newman & Sons, of Tremont street, had a good St. Valentine's day business and have had good trade so far this winter. The violets of Kidder Bros, always sell quickly. The flowers are of splendid quality and beautifully bunched. Some growers can produce fine flowers, but have not yet learned how to bunch them properly, and care- ful bunching, so as to show the individ- uality of each flower, means a great ^eal. W. N. C. aEEENWICH, CONN. There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Westchester and Fairfield Horticultural Society, in Doran's hall, February 12. President W. J. Sealey was in the chair. Sev- eral new members were elected and a number of proposals for memlbership were received. It was voted to hold the annual fall exhibition as usual. Prizes have been offered by A. N. Pier- son, Inc., in the chrysanthemum classes, and John Canning offers $20 in gold as a sweepstakes prize for the best chrys- anthemum bush plant. Visitors present were M. C. Ebel
