When properly conducted, a garden party may be given with verylittle trouble, and made very simple and informal, but if desired maybe made elaborate and ceremonious. When only neighbors are to be entertained, a hasty invitation, so asto be sure of fine weather, may be sent two or three days in advance,but when guests are expected from any distance it is customary tosend invitations eight or ten days in advance, as suitable preparationsmust be made. 268 SOIREES, MUSICALES AND LAWN PARTIES.
