Magnus cathedral on Faroe Islands was built from 1300 onwards under bishop Erlendur.
The Faroe Islands is an archipelago in the Norwegian Sea just halfway between Norway and Iceland, around 320 km north of Scotland. Around 50000 people are living on cool and wet 1400 square øur is the most important historical site of the islands with the ruins of the Magnus cathedral which was built from 1300 onwards under bishop Erlendur. There is no tower and the 25 meters long church was built with basalt from the archipelago. Die Färöer-Inseln liegen ungefähr auf halben Weg zwischen Norwegen und Island, sowie 320 Kilometer nördlich von Schottland im Nordatlantik. Auf etwa 1400 Quadratkilometer Land leben rund Menschen in einem kühlen und recht feuchten Klima. Kirkjubøur ist der wichtigste historische Ort der Färöern mit den Ruinen der Magnus-Kathedrale, die vermutlich um 1300 unter Bischof Erlendur begonnen wurde. Einen Kirchturm gab es nie, erbaut wurde das 25 Meter lange Kirchenschiff aus Basalt von den Färöern.
