Y. Jab Market. Last week this city was in the grip of one of the severest spells of cold weather experienced in several years. THe thermometer registered as low as 18 degrees below zero and many green- house men were up the greater part of tfifi first two or three nights of the cold spell in order to keep up enough heat in-Hheir houses. No reports have come indicating that any suffered any par- ticular loss from freezing. Business lyas not so active as in other years, presumably because of the severe weather. Snow flurries have been fre- quent. Many shipments of flowers ar- rived late and many were badly frozen, thus fairly crippling the market and causing much disappointment. Stock was otherwise in excellent shape and good prices were obtained. Boses were excellent. There has not been much demand for American Beauties of late. Cecile Brunner had a small, but steady, demand. Cattleyas and cypripediums were in good supply and sold fairly well. Carnations were plentiful and of good quality. Violets arrived in fair quantities and sold more freely than in the previous week. Paper White narcissi were of good qual- ity, but were limited in supply. Bouvardia was seen occasionally. Calla lilies were in fair supply and sold read- ily. Holly was disappointing, arriving late, with few berries and in bad condi- tion. Other Christmas greens were good. Poinsettias
