Whitehall, London, UK. 22nd October 2016. Up to two hundred protesters stage a rally outside Downing Street to highlight the human cost of the Syrian conflict and the bombing of Aleppo children. Teddy bears were piled outside the gates of Downing Street by around 200 children with celebrities including The Great Gatsby star Carey Mulligan joining in to demand the Government intervene over Russian and Syrian bombing campaigns. A delegation of protesters then presented a letter to Number 10 demanding Theresa May take action to help cease the bloodshed in Syria. Campaigners said the day of action is a rebuttal to Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson's call for protests outside the Russian embassy as they feel the British Government needs to play a stronger role itself. Among the organisations involved were Amnesty International UK, Avaaz, Big Heart, Council on Arab British Understanding (CAABU), CARE International UK, Christian Aid, Doctors of the World UK, Human Appeal, International Rescue Committee UK, Syria Relief, The Syria Campaign, War Child, ChildrenPlus, WATAN, Sunday Mirror and Daily Mirror.
