Amsterdam. Overdoor window ornament on the Keizersgracht 460. This is a modern copy of a 19th century cast iron traditional, symbolic, tree of life. Note that it has been fitted upside down: the two little bells that normally hang from the tree, now point upwards. Traditional architecture with a postmodern twist. Maybe that is what the motto tries to tell us: It really does not matter. Holland is well known for the great diversity of fanlights and over door carved window panels. The houses on the main canals of Amsterdam are like an open air archive of styles that go back to the 17th century. Recently they came into fashion again, as this example shows. The maxim could be the motto of the easygoing lifestyle of Amsterdam.
