Between these two extremes thereare all grades. Even in some cases, as I have repeatedly seen, theremay be an excellent return of motor power in a nerve and in amuscle which do not yet respond in a perfectly normal way to gal-vanism and farad ism. In all cases where reaction of degeneration, either complete or par-tial, is found, it indicates disease in the nerve and in the muscle, suchas is described in neuritis, although the neuro-muscular alterationmay be of central origin. It must be remembered, however, thatthere are certain diseases of the muscle, as in pseudo-hypertrophicmuscular paralysis, in which there is scarcely any alteration togalvanism and faradism. 112 INTRODUCTORY.
