Dorothy's Well, Portinscale, Cumbria is a water well built as a memorial to his invalid daughter by Dorothy by Rev. Christian, vicar of Crosthwaite.


Dorothy's Well, Portinscale. Dorothy's Well was erected by the Rev. Christian, vicar of Crosthwaite 1728-58, as a memorial to his daughter. Dorothy (1730-72) was an invalid who watched the horses go by this crossroads from her window. The memorial was created from an existing water trough for horses. Inscription: Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again, but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.
