Members of associations participating in the festival of Qoyllur Riti, attend the official launch of the celebration in Cuzco


The festival of Qoyllorit'i or Quyllur Rit'i, held annually in honor of the Lord of Qoyllorit'i, is one of the largest religious activities taking place in the southern highlands of Peru, with the participation of large number of devotees from various towns and cities. This festival takes place on the slopes of Mount Ausangate at 5362 meters, this town in the province of Sinakara Quispicanchi in the department of Cuzco. This festival and the sanctuary of Qoyllorit'i were declared cultural heritage of the nation on 10 August 2004. Subsequently, 27 November 2011 UNESCO added the "Pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the Lord of Qoyllorit'i" as part of the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
