The condition is evidently one of congenitalatonic dilatation. Cicatricial constriction usually follows ulceration of theureteral mucosa by infection or trauma. It is more com-monly found in the lower portion of the ureter. It is oc-casionally found together with a small stone lodged in the MECHANICAL DILATATION 143 ureter or as the result of trauma following its passage. InFig. 109 the ureter is markedly dilated above the wall ofthe bladder for a distance of 3 cm. Above this point theureter is incompletely distended. At operation dilatationof the ureter was found which was evidently the result ofan inflammatory constriction of the ureter at the wall ofthe bladder. Dilatation of both ureters may result from stricture ofthe urethra or prostatic obstruction which also causesmarked dilatation of the bladder. Th
