This range is based on a combination of my findings and thosementioned in the literature.^ ^ It should be stated especially that the upperand lower limits are not absolutely sharp. The height of the black columnsindicates the number of cases. DISCUSSION The viscosity is normal in arrested eases in Group 1. Although the otherthree groups comprise cases in which the viscosity is normal, there is amarked preponderance of cases in which the viscosity is high. Such degrees of viscositywere not observed in the great number of determinations made during thepast year in other diseases. It is also worthy of note that in the few casesof Group 4 in which the viscosity was normal, the refractivity was extremelylow. A viscosity of from to under usual conditions would correspondto such low refractive indexes. If, therefore, a viscosity of from is found, this normal viscosity is very much elevated. The refractivity of tuberculous serum is normal in most cases. The field REFRACTO-VISCOSIMETRIC PROPERTIES OF BLOOD SERUM 735 between 54 and 64 (Pulfrich units) corresponds, according to Reiss,
