Ql ICKERY Habitiiw was ingesting G grains of morphin daily; after tak-ing this morphin cure she was taking Hi grains of morphinand s grains of heroin a day. A Gradual Reduction Treat-ment indeed! Another physician wrote to The Journalregarding some patients who had taken ilabitina: These patients are in worse mental condition thanbefore: without ilabitina they are miserable and can-not derive satisfaction from even twice the dose ofmorphin. Such results may be expected when morphin habituesattempt to cure themselves with a remedy that is itself r A* *, *. The Maplewood Sanatorium is another concern that advertises tocure the morphin habit. The method is to furnish bottles of thecure numbered consecutively and contents to be taken in theorder indicated. The stuff, of course, contains morphin. (By courtesyof the Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce.) loaded with morphin and heroin. That poor helpless wrecksof humanity are daily being dragged down still deeper intothe slough of despond by this damnable product cannot bedoubted. Why can such things be ? Because of the insatiablegreed on the part of the few who engage in this villainoustraffic, and of the intolerable negligence on the part of themany who stand idly by and make no effort to enact lawsthat shall stamp it out.— (From The Journal .1. .1/.
