Harding, decorator for Podesta & Baldocchi, is recuperating from an un- provoked attack made upon him by a huge comber, on the beach at Santa Cruz, November 20. As sometimes liap- pens in California, a sudden swell came with the force of a young tidal wave out of a moderately calm sea, sweeping young Harding off his feet, and it was only after a hard struggle that he again found himself on terra firma, although battered and bruised. The Art Floral Co. utilized some of the huge yellow pumpkins and squash, that grow in California, in its Thanks- giving decorations. Scooped out, with enough of the pumpkin retained for fancy handles, these vegetables made most attractive Thanksgiving baskets when filled with flowers in shades that harmonized with their orange hues, such as pale yellow roses and pompon chrys- anthemums in a riot of autumn color- ing. F. C. Jaeger & Son report a good Thanksgiving demand for cut flowers. They are, liowever, concentrating on preparations for the Christmas trade, which they expect to be large. Mrs. Darbee has found it difficult to fill all her violet orders. She is one of the few shippers who grow their own violets. Her firm is also busy with strawflowers.
