Statue of Hercules

Hercules (Roman name; Heracles to the Greeks) was a major figure in Greek and Roman mythology. A demi-god, he was the son of Zeus and Alcmene. He is traditionally depicted with a club and the skin of the Nemean lion, which he killed as the first of 12 Labors assigned to him by King Eurystheus. This statue, sculpted of Greek marble, also shows Hercules holding three apples of the Hesperides, which he had to fetch for his 11th Labor.
