A drill instructor with Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, instructs a recruit to respond louder during a physical training session at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Jan. 23. The drill instructors ensure the recruits perform the exercises correctly during a 400-meter dash event. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Charlie Company is scheduled to graduate April 6.
