To prepare sheep's fleece for spinning it is 'combed' with steel brushes known as carders. This removes debris and pulls all the fibres into line. The carded fleece is then removed from the carders to create rolags ready for spinning. The basket is full of prepared rolags ready to be hand spun into woollen yarn ready for either knitting or weaving.
