Electrostatic generator sparks. 18th-century illustration depicting sperks being produced by an electrostatic generator designed by Dutch physician and inventor Martin van Marum (1750-1837). Van Marum's most famous invention was the large electrostatic generator he designed, that was built by John Cuthbertson in 1784 for the Teylers Museum in Haarlem, the Netherlands. Illustration published in van Marum's 'Beschreibung einer ungemein grossen Elektrisier-Maschine' (1786-1798).
