H. prattii is closely related to H. monogynum, but differs in its ovate, often acuminate, leaves, nearly always with cordate-amplexicaul base. Using these dis- tinguishing characters, Wilson 1604 and 2420, cited as H. prattii by Rehder in Sargent, PI. Wils. 2: 404 (1915), must be transferred to H. monogynum. These specimens are somewhat intermediate; but from a study of the available material, it seems better to treat H. monogynum and H. prattii as distinct species rather than to give the latter the varietal status suggested by Rehder. The Wilson specimen (from W. Hubei) has larger flowers and broader sepals than have the original collections from Sichuan, and was collected at a much lower altitude. The absence of other records from near Kunming (let alone elsewhere in Yunnan) throws doubt on the provenance of the Alleizette spec
