The death of the father,followed within a year by the deatlr ofthe mother, left the subject of this sketch, then threeyears old, to the care of relatives, and he found ahome with his paternal grandfather, where he re-mained until his death. Mr Felch received his earlyeducation in the district school and a neighboringacademy. In 1821 he became a student at PhillipsExter Academy, and, subsequently, entered BowdoinCollege, graduated with the class of 1827. He atonce began the study of law and was admitted
