The nature reserve is one of the bogs of Sebino regional nature reserves established by the Lombardy region. Natural area that originated from the activity of peat extraction, is located south of the southern shore of Lake Iseo to 185 m above sea level and is the most important wetland extent and ecological significance of the province of Brescia. Institutionally belongs to the Lombardy region, which has entrusted the management to a consortium of the province of Brescia, the mountain community of Sebino and municipalities on whose territory it is located: the town of Iseo, to Provaglio and that of the Court Franca. It was declared a "wetland of international importance" under the Ramsar Convention. Important to the monastery of San Pietro in Lamosa Cluniac order in the municipality of Provaglio.
