It fell into the hands of a worthypolice officer, who would have kept it to himself had he notbeen obliged to buy himself out of the hands of justice. The funerals of the victims of the riot were attended by avast body of citizens, particularly that of the brave CharlesHimmelwright, who so nobly fell in the discharge of his duty,shot by the murderous pistols of the Killers. That terrible body of outlaws still exists in a broken state,and no one knows how soon their misdeeds may again shockthe moral sense of the world.
