Warren (Surgical Observations on Tumors, London,1837, p. 228) speaks of a woman, 28 years of age, whoseleft breast became so large that it was necessary to amputateit. When it was examined nothing was found but an in-crease in the fat. Later, the doctor informed him that there was a tendency toward the same thing on the otherside. This leads us to infer that the condition was not lipoma, but large mammary lipomas are on record. Sir Astley Cooper ( Illustrations ofDiseases of the Breast, 1845, PP- 48-49) reports one weighing 14 pounds, another weigh-ing 14 pounds 10 ounces, and a third of great size. Brodie also reports one of large. Fig. 139.—Enormous lipomaof the breast. (Billroth.)
