A bazaarheld for the church netted something likethree hundred dollars. An urgent debtwas paid and in place of the ugly largebox stoves, a hot air furnace placed in thechurch. In February 1893 the pastorpicked up even enough money to pay forthe two lots, the price for which ^ D. Hollister had reduced bv one-half. In 1897 with the revival of industry lifebegun to pulsate with greater vigor thanever. Prosperity was never greater inCrystal Falls than it is today, when everymine is being worked. The little churchbears witness to this. Already FatherKeul gave it the much needed repairs inand outside, giving the pick-roofedsteeple the present appearance. But Fa-ther Kunes has completely transformed. ST. Josephs (German) church, escanaba, mich. the building, at the cost of six thousanddollars, now all paid for. To the rear anaddition of thirty feet was made. Theinterior is steel-ceiled with an artistic de-sign and decorated. The old altars,partly the hand-work of Father Rezek,replaced by three gothic altars of a mostmodern pattern, manufactured by Hann,Wangerin-Weickhardt Co. of Milwaukee, 348 HISTORY OF THE DIOCESE OF Wis. New pews, stations and stainedglass windows give the church a com-pleteness seldom rivaled in a town of thissize. The stations are paintings of un-usual merit executed by Anton Lang ofReichenau, Bohemia and were donatedby Senator M. H. Moriarty, way down in1893. The same gentleman donated thepresent main altar.
