In Stanhope-street thegreat actor, William C Macreadj , was born onthe 3rd of March, 1793. He was the son of Irishparents, his father being a well-known actor anddramatist. As is generally known, the highest position obtainable on thestage in his day. and in some tragic parts haabeen unequalled. He excelled in the characters ofRichard the Third and Vhginius, but he did notpossess the versatility of some other Irish J. P. Kemble, he played Roman parts toperfection, and among hisgreatest triumphs werethoae wou by him in plays written by such Irish-men as Geiald Griffin and J. Sheridan Knowles,notably in Gisippus and Virginius. He
