WALTER GRAHAM CRAWFORD—Prominent in legal circles in Pittsburgh, and interested in otheractivities varied in nature, Walter Graham Crawford isone of Pittsburghs successful attorneys. Mr. Craw-ford was born in Pine township, Allegheny county, Pa.,a son of John and Lydia (Graham) Crawford, comingof old Pennsylvania stock, his father having been bornon the same farm which Mr. Crawford now owns,which his grandfather located and took up in Tiie Ajnsncon Htstcr-c? < Sidf^h/ Ena fjj f G v^dlioms i Brc VY BIOGRAPHICAL 155 Gaining his early education through private tutors,Mr. Crawford attended Witherspoon Institute, Butler,Pa., then took a course at Westminster College, NewWilmington, this State. Thereafter he entered upon thestudy of law in the office of Graham & Riddle, of Butler,Pa., the senior partner of this firm being his full cousin,Walter L. Graham, who was then widely celebrated inButler county and vicinity. During his school attend-ance Mr. Crawford worked, not of necessity, butbecause he desired independence, and thus financed hisown education. He was admitted to the bar in Butlercounty, Jan. 12, 1874, and at once came to Pittsburgh,where he established his office, and has practiced herecontinuously since, and holds a leading position amonghis contemporaries.
